Thelma was born January 12, 1932 to the union of Alto and Carrie Lee Jackson in Chandler, Texas. She is the 11th and last child born to the union. Thelma celebrates this day with her twin sister, Velma.
She joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. While serving as a member of the choir, she soon transitioned into the role of musician; serving Antioch Missionary Baptist Church for over 40 years.
She married John Wallace of Chandler, Texas in 1952. To this union, one son, Milton, was born. After marriage, she played for Macedonia Baptist Church of Chandler, Texas for over 55 years. Overall, Thelma played for over 70 years and the pianist experienced her last song on Friday, August 11, 2017.
Thelma attended and graduated from Central High School ("The Dragons") in Moore Station, Texas (1950). She received her Bachelor's Degree (1955) from Texas College in Tyler, Texas. Afterward she earned her Master's Degree (1971) from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas where she walked across the stage with glee.
For 39 years, Thelma challenged and educated great minds of many children (the first 8 years in Chandler, Texas and the last 31 years in Terrell, Texas). During her career and in retirement, her life exemplified a model of excellence and became a testimony that helped others to grow as human beings.
Painting became her therapeutic hobby. She worked late into the night, after a long hard day in the classroom, to create her visions of art. Although creating excellence on canvas, she released only one of over 100 creations.
