Our beloved mother and memaw passed away, surrounded by her loving family, July 28, 2018. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Johnnie Burris; her kids, Gary Terry, Rickey Terry and wife Bobbie Gail, Loretta Walsh and husband Donny, Rene Burris and wife Tina, Gwen Abna and husband Joey, Rube Burris, Curtis Colby and wife Glenda, Tony Burris, Anna Fleming and husband Rex; 26 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pearlene Pierce and Darlene Lippenscott; one brother, Robert Lee Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.

She loved quilting, needlework, cooking, canning, but most of all caring for all who were around her. She spent many years as a barber and worked for Creme Lure Manufacturing, in packaging and bagging fishing lures. She worked as a cook for Meals on Wheels, providing for the needy in Tyler. Later serving and cooking for the children at Jackson Elementary School at Chapel Hill I.S.D. When she retired, she and her sister, Gingie, prepared, tacked and delivered countless quilts for the homeless for several years. She was an active member of the Rise Again Baptist Church in Tyler.

Along with the lifetime of precious memories we made, with sleepovers and adventures with our mom and memaw, we have enjoyed a continuous sleepover with many laughs along with tears as we and Hospice of East Texas cared for her in her last days.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to her nurse, Brittany and aide, Lesa with Hospice of East Texas, for their exceptional care, not only to our mom and memaw, but to our entire family during this difficult time in our lives.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2018 in the chapel of Jackson's Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Jones officiating. She will be laid to rest at Whitehouse Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. To view online, please go to
