A funeral service for Susan Malinda Miller McDonald will be held at 1:00 P.M Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Bailey & Foster Chapel with David English officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Susan passed away at North Cypress Medical Center Hospital in Houston on Friday, January 4, 2019. She was 70 years old.

Susan was born in Palestine, Texas, on February 13, 1948, to parents Louis Paul and Evelyn Shaid Miller. She graduated from Palestine High School in 1966 and attended Henderson County Junior College. She spent her professional career in Houston, working at Bracken Krutilek CPA for 15 years before moving to Mohle Adams in 2001, where she served as Administrator of Human Resources. She finally had enough of the long commute in Houston traffic and retired in 2016.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, brother Freddie Miller, and sister Vicky Orr.

She is survived by daughters Stacy McDonald-Young (Eric), Elizabeth Ann McDonald, and granddaughter Katelynn Elizabeth Swenson, all of Austin; sister Peggy Moore of Tyler; former husband and lifelong friend Walter McDonald III of Palestine; and four nephews.

Susan was a kind, gentle and caring mother, raising her two daughters into adulthood. She seldom had a bad thing to say to anyone, although she could pen a sternly-worded letter when needed. She was a wonderful cook and was happiest when surrounded by family or friends. Her dogs, Gracie and Maggie, kept faithful company with her, along with a spare cat or two. She was crafty and artistic, traits she passed on to her beloved granddaughter, Katy. Above all, she was sweet and generous.

She will be forever missed by her family and friends and all who knew her.

A reception after the service Saturday will be at Shelton Hall on East Crawford in Old Town Palestine.

Honorary pallbearers are Eric Young, Ardon Moore III, Chad Moore, Benjamin Moore, Matthew Moore, Jason Jarrell, and John Swenson.

Susan's children wish to thank friends and family, in particular those that assisted in her care and comfort in recent months. We will forever be grateful for your friendship and assistance.
