Obituary

A memorial service celebrating the life of Martha Meanor Burch, 91, of Tyler, is scheduled for Saturday, February 9, 2019, at 11 a.m. in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel. Family visitation will immediately follow the service. A private burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Martha was born on January 14, 1928, in Dallas and went to be with the Lord on February 4, 2019 in Tyler, Texas. She was raised in Dallas, graduating from Sunset High School in 1944. She attended business college and also worked for the Stock Exchange Division of the First National Bank in Dallas.

On August 15, 1947, Martha married the love of her life, Arthur Lee Burch, also of Dallas. They were married for 60 years until his death in 2006. As newlyweds, they moved to College Station, when Arthur returned from the United States Army Air Forces to continue his degree in Architecture at Texas A&M University. During this time, Martha worked for the Engineering Department and the Business Department at Texas A&M. After his graduation in 1950, Martha and Arthur moved to Tyler. They were active members of Green Acres Baptist Church, where they taught Sunday school and Martha enjoyed singing in the choir. Martha volunteered at Breckenridge Village of Tyler and worked at the Tyler Chamber of Commerce. She was an active, as well as sustaining, member of the Junior League of Tyler. She was also a member of the Women's Symphony League of Tyler.

Martha "Honey" loved spending time with her family and friends and was always entertaining. She enjoyed traveling with Arthur and their friends, to destinations including Hawaii, Mexico, and Europe. Some of Martha's most cherished family memories were of summer beach trips to Galveston and ski vacations in New Mexico in the winter. Playing tennis on the courts of Tyler Tennis and Swim was one of her favorite outdoor activities as well as spending time on the golf course at Willow Brook Country Club.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lee Burch; son, Arthur Lee Burch, Jr.; parents, Ikey and Roy Meanor; sister, Mary Beth Walton; niece, Linda Walton Felle; and nephew, Fred McElroy. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marty and Neal Smith of Tyler; daughter-in-law, Lea Ellen Burch of Humble; daughters-in-law and sons, Mary and Brian Burch of San Antonio, and Lori and Scott Burch of Tyler. Honey's grandchildren are Burch Smith of Tampa, FL., Blake Smith of Tyler, Andrew Smith of College Station, Erica and Daniel Burch of Stafford, Claire and Blake Stiles of Humble, Phillip Burch of Katy, Ben Burch of Warren, OR., Charly and Sam Burch of Whitehouse, Gillen Burch of Berkley, CA., Robin Burch of Austin, and Annie and Ross Burch of Tyler. Her great-grandchildren are Baylor Stiles, Bethany Stiles, Bane Frederickson, Reilly Burch, Mason Burch, Kaley Burch, and Mary Wallace Burch. Martha is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Robert Walls; sister, Patricia McElroy; nieces and spouses, Teena and Mark Harvey, Barbara and Jim Knight, Rosemary and Richard Chambers, as well as many other great-nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are her grandsons, Ben Burch, Sam Burch, Daniel Burch, Ross Burch, Phillip Burch, Burch Smith, Gillen Burch, Blake Smith and Andrew Smith.

The Burch Family would like to express their thanks to Martha's caregivers, Tameka Johnigan, Tracy Johnigan, & Lattra Ann Wilson, for their kindness and love for "our 'Honey'".
