Marshall Charlton Cates, 93, of Corinth passed away on January 3, 2019 in Denton, Texas surrounded by loved ones. He was born on April 18, 1925 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Eugene G. and Grace (Sewell) Cates. They moved to Ackerly, Texas where Marshall and his sister, Billie Gene grew up on the family farm.

Marshall married the love of his life, Nadine Walker in 1944. They celebrated 74 years of marriage last year on March 27th. They resided in Big Spring for most of their married life and while living there they raised two children, a daughter, Carolyn and son, Keith Cates.

Marshall worked for automobile dealerships in Big Spring, Wichita Falls and Tyler, Texas for most of his adult life. He was devoted to the Chevrolet brand and was a member of Only the Best Club for 20 years. The club recognized his outstanding performance in Chevrolet Retail Service Management. He retired in 1985 from King Chevrolet in Tyler.

When he was not working, he spent his time fishing and gardening. He lived many years on Lake Palestine where he fished morning and evening. His gardens were amazing, and he gave much food away along with fish filets by the bagful. He became best friends with many of his neighbors and was loved by so many other friends and family.

Marshall was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Grace Cates, his sister Billie (Cates) Sewell, along with his son, Keith Cates.

Marshall is survived by his wife, Nadine Walker Cates, a daughter, Carolyn (Cates) Johnson and her husband K. Frank Johnson of Corinth and by grandsons: Robert Lance Cowley and wife Kym Elizondo-Cowley and Justin Martin Johnson and wife Kimberly Walker Johnson. He was Great-Grandaddy to his seven great grandchildren, Avery Cowley, Olivia Cowley, Carly Johnson, Reese Johnson, Brighton Wilson, Jillian Wilson and Bonham Wilson.

A Memorial Service to honor Marshall will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 12th at Willow Bend Assisted Living, 2125 Brinker Road, Denton, Texas.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Ardent Hospice, 700 Parker Square, Suite 105, Flower Mound, Texas 75028 (469)-293-1515.
