Obituary

Services for Jerre Iversen, 73, of Tyler will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Wickham officiating. A private family burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler.

Mr. Iversen passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019, in Tyler. He was born on December 6, 1945, in Jamestown, North Dakota to John Orville and Mary Louise Doles Iversen. Jerre attended Glendale Adventist Academy and Pacific Union College. In 1970, he married Gail Wichser and had a daughter, Heather Shawn, in 1974. He married Beverly Hampton in 1986. Jerre was a Seventh-day Adventist whose belief in God followed him throughout his life. He died assured of God's grace and salvation.

Jerre's career of service spans over fifty years. His life impacted countless people as Director of the Alumni for Loma Linda University School of Medicine, as well as a long career in philanthropy that included Executive Campaign Director for a hospital in the Philippines, Director of Development at Queen of the Valley Hospital, Director of Major Gifts at Los Angeles Children's Hospital, Director of Major Gifts at Baylor College of Medicine, Executive Director of Development at Georgetown University Medical Center, Executive Director of Development at Yale University School of Medicine, Vice President of Development for the University of Texas Health Science Center, and finally the Vice President of University Advancement for the University of Texas at Tyler.

Jerre was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Doles Iversen and his father, John Orville Iversen. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Beverly; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Steve Merillat; grandchildren Alex Iversen-Cress and Shelbie Smith, Shelbie's husband Josh Smith, and sister Bonnie Iversen.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.

If desired, memorials may be made to the Jerre Iversen Endowed Scholarship at the University of Texas at Tyler, Office of University Advancement, 3900 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75799. This scholarship will benefit future nursing students as a tribute to Jerre's deep appreciation for the nurses who helped him on his journey.
