Funeral services for Mrs. Mary D. Mims-Ward, 74, of Tyler are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Bethlehem First Baptist Church with the Rev. James E. Price officiating.
Burial will be in Jones Valley Cemetery under direction of Community Funeral Home of Tyler.
Mrs. Ward died Feb. 19, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 29, 1938, in Tyler to the late Elder and Mary Mims and was a lifelong resident of Smith County. She was a graduate of Emmett J. Scott High School, Texas College, West Texas State University and Texas Tech University and a retired educator from Tyler Independent School District. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Inc., East Texas Baptist Congress Missionary and Pittsburg Independent School District. She was a member of Jones Valley Church of God in Christ and Bethlehem First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. George Ward, Tyler; daughters, Georgie (Alvin) Berthea Gee and Donna (Billy) Ward-Harrell, all of Tyler; brother, John Mims, Dallas; sisters, Lebertha Gipson, Bertha Williams and Fern Caldwell, all of Tyler; grandchildren, Brennon (Shirley) Williams, Mansfield, Bethanie Williams, Mesquite; and great-grandson, Obie Bryson Williams, Humble.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at 1527 W. 29th St.
