Services for Doris Cantrell will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home in Palestine. The Rev. Kevin Simmons will officiate.
Mrs. Cantrell passed away Aug. 10, 2012, with family and friends by her side.
She was born to Lura and Zeph Beasley in Omaha, Texas, Oct. 31, a long time ago.
Mrs. Cantrell attended Mary Hardin Baylor where she met her late husband Lt Col. (retired) T.V. Cantrell. She graduated from Baylor University with a BA Degree and later she earned her Master's Degree at Stephen F. Austin University.
She was Christian from early childhood and was a member of Neches Baptist Church for over 50 years.
She taught school in DeKalb, Mount Vernon, Bossier City, La., Westwood High School, Jacksonville High School and Lon Morris College.
While teaching, she became a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an International Honorary Sorority for women educators. She served as state president, regional grand vice president of six states and Mexico, and international chaplain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Don Beasley.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane Downing and husband Scott, and Kathryn (Kathy) Chestnut and husband Richard (Larry). She leaves four grandchildren, Jacob Saucier and wife Regina, Amy Bacon, Michael Bacon and wife Launa, and Carrie Bacon and husband Robert Richardson. Mrs. Cantrell also leaves great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Calloway, Hayden Richardson, Avery Bacon and Glori Saucier.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Saucier, Jeff Simmons, Eric Calloway, Jacob McMahon, Larry Mars, George Simmons, Clay Starling and Bobby Jack Simmons.
