Services for Johnnie R. Gibson, age 65, of Noonday, are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Noonday United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Hoke officiating. Interment will follow in Hawthorne Cemetery under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors.
Johnnie passed away June 3, 2012, in the compassionate care of The Hospice of East Texas. He was born March 25, 1947, in Tyler to B.D. and Caroline Gibson. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and received his B.B.A. from Stephen F. Austin State University.
Johnnie started working in the car business with his father when he bought and sold his first car at age 14. He continued the family business and also loved admiring and restoring classic cars. He was involved in his community and church, serving on the Noonday City Council for more than 25 years and the Noonday United Methodist Administrative Board. His faith, love, strength and kindness made him the most wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend.
Johnnie is survived by his loving family including his wife of 37 years, Sharan; son, Jonathan, of Tyler; daughters, Shon Gaworski and husband Drew and their children Macallan and Madison, of Oil City, Pa.; Stephanie Gibson, of Tyler; mother, Caroline Gibson, of Tyler; sister, Jan Freeman and husband Steve, of Willis; a niece and nephew; and precious cousins that he grew up so close to. Johnnie was preceded in death by his father, B.D. Gibson.
