A graveside service for Nina Hill Carpenter, 103, of Tyler, will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011, at Rose Hill Cemetery at 1 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gerry Giles officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carpenter passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Sterling House in Tyler.
She was born March 5, 1907, in Whitehouse to Samuel R. Sr. and Pearl Beard Hill.
Nina was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Tyler High. Nina was also a member of the St. Paul Women's Society where she was very active. She started the tradition of putting up the Crismon Tree and making the decorations for it as well as the hanging of the wall banners, which continues to this day.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Walter Carpenter; son, Dr. Gerald "Sonny" Carpenter; and grandson, John Marc Carpenter.
She is survived by her loving family, including daughter-in-law, Minnette Carpenter of Jefferson; grandson, Gerald Walter Carpenter, also of Jefferson; granddaughter, Kathy Carpenter of Tyler; great-grandchildren, Keith and Jenny Goddard of Kingwood, Dane and Angela Goddard of Bryan, and Jennifer Goddard of Baton Rouge, La.; and by great-great-grandchildren, Nathan and Hannah Goddard of Kingwood. She is also survived by nieces and nephews and by special niece, Shirley Pinkerton of Tyler.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, 75703.
