Donald Wayne Wilson


Memorial services for Donald Wayne Wilson are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at Rock Hill Baptist Church in Brownsboro with Bro. Robert Welch officiating under direction of Hilliard Funeral Home, Van.

Donald Wayne Wilson was born in Jacksboro on Jan. 16, 1941, to the late Wilbur T. and Nellie Wilson. Donald passed away at the age of 69 in a Texas City hospital, after a very brief illness.

Donald attended school in Mineral Wells, where he was a lead player in basketball. He loved his sports, especially golf. He received a golf scholarship to North Texas State (University of North Texas). While at North Texas, he was All-American and an NCAA Long Drive Champion. Jack Nicklaus was among his golf competitors. His team finished second in the NCAA golf tournament his senior year. He also played on the PGA Tour. Donald was known to most as the "Hustler," once quoted by Lee Trevino in his book, "The Snake in the Sandtrap." He also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Donald is survived by his children, Donny Bob Wilson and wife Sherri of Chandler, Tammy Nalene Wilson of Tyler, Fantasy Wilson and Quintin Wilson of Arlington; five grandchildren, Collin Wilson, Tanner Wilson, Lexton Wilson, all of Chandler, Lexi Wilson of Tyler, and Gianna Sanders of Arlington; and brother, Billy Roy Wilson of Midland.
