A Mass of Christian burial for Bobby Jones will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul with the Rev. Paul Key officiating. Interment will follow in Hearne Norwood Cemetery in Hearne at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. David Liedham officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Bobby passed away after a brief illness Monday, April 28, 2014, in Fort Worth, surrounded by family and lifelong friends. He was born on Sept. 29, 1959, in Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y., at Mitchel Air Force Base. He resided most of his life in Tyler where he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1978. While attending Baylor University, Bobby was an escort in the 1979 Rose Festival, a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, and graduated with a B.A. degree in business administration. After college graduation, Bobby managed McClain Building Materials in Tyler for 23 years, and then worked for Georgia Pacific in Arlington and for RESDOOR Co. in Fort Worth. No matter where he resided, Bobby continued to be an avid, steadfast and true Baylor Bears and Texas Rangers fan.
One of the little-known facts about Bobby happened in early 1960. At six months of age, Procter and Gamble selected him as the Ivory Snow baby for their television commercials to be aired before soap operas. Though he received much attention from that unique experience, through the years he continually maintained a quiet, kind and gentle spirit, a love for family and friends, a great sense of humor, and was widely known as "uncle" to everyone's kids.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Robert Truman Jones; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Trentacost and Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Jones, of Hearne.
He is survived by his loving family including his parents, Rosemary and Joe McClain, of Tyler; his brothers, Steve Jones, of Kent, Conn., Mark Jones, of Austin, Kent McClain, of Killeen; his nieces, Elizabeth Jones, of Houston, Katherine Jones, of San Antonio; his uncle, Pete Trentacost, of Houston; as well as numerous cousins.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Bishop, Brit Britton, Kirk Dotson, Bruce Henderson, David Shelburn and John Stephens.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014, with the rosary following at 6:30 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Paul Key at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, 75703.
Donations may be made to the Baylor "B" Association, 1500 S. University Park Drive, Waco, 76706; or to East Texas Food Bank, 3201 Robertson Road, Tyler, 75701.
