Michael R. Garrett, 43, son of Ruby B. Garrett and the late Reagan E. Garrett, passed into the healing hands of God on April 23, 2014. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was the victim of a violent crime in May of 1990. Since that time, he has been confined to a hospital bed with continual care. Michael loved art, playing his guitar and working on his car.
He is survived by his mother, Ruby Garrett; a sister, Dr. Jennifer Garrett and her partner, Lori Keller, of New Orleans, La.; and two nephews, Luke Keller Garrett and Beau Christian Garrett, of New Orleans; two aunts, and numerous cousins.
He is also survived by his "other mother" and caregiver Linda Bowie. Linda has loved and cared for Michael for over 20 years. Others who cared for him are Mattie Battles, Charity Botse, Tonya Thomas, Vicki Perry and Roni Sparks and his R.N. Melena Sandifer.
I would especially like to say thank you to his wonderful doctor, Mark Morris. He was more than his doctor, he was also our friend and we were blessed to have him in our lives.
A memorial service to celebrate Michael's life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014, in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Dr. Paul Powell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service, 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the chapel.
Memorials may be made to The Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, 75701, or
