Memorial services for Thelma "Tickie" West Brand, 83, will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Tyler with Father Hank Lanik officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brand passed from this earthly life to her eternal reward on March 29, 2014, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Eunice, La., to Avit D. and Jimmie Marie Hulin Bordelon.
"Tickie" left her Louisiana roots to train as a stewardess for Braniff Airlines and later became a Clipped B member. She had been a resident of Tyler since 1957. She was a member of the Altar Society of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and a member of the Tyler Junior League. She loved offshore fishing, deer hunting, gardening and was an accomplished seamstress. She supported and volunteered at many charitable and nonprofit organizations including Mother Frances Hospital, Bethesda Clinic, The Salvation Army, and accumulated many friends while working part time at Stein Mart. She was a real lady and cherished being in the company of others. Her philanthropic contributions to many charities was a joy in her life. Her caring will be missed by all who knew her.
"Tickie" was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Avit Bordelon, of Eunice, La.; husbands, Oscar West, of Tyler, and Col. William Brand, of Salem, Va.; sister, Geraldine Berthelot and husband Alvin, of Lutcher, La.
She is survived by her loving family including her brother, James Bordelon and his wife Mary Ellen, of Church Point, La.; twin sisters, Mary and Betty Bordelon, of Metairie, La.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to recognize the dedicated services of The Hospice of East Texas and the compassionate caretakers for Tickie.
