Memorial services for Vernon Redd, 87, of Tyler, will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Randy and Ronny Redd officiating.

Mr. Redd passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 in Tyler. He was born March 16, 1930 in Lufkin to Tol and Isabel Redd.

Vernon was an outstanding football player at Lufkin High School and Stephen F. Austin University. He came to Tyler to be a backfield coach at Tyler High School. In 1952, he worked as a salesman, landman and owner of Vernon Solutions, Inc. He served 55 years as a deacon at First Baptist Church and was a member of Gideons International.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; first wife and mother of his children, Tommye York Redd; grandsons, Michael and Jason Jean; and son-in-law Scott Hempe. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Holt Redd; daughter, Cindy Triebes and husband Scott of Kingwood; daughter, Melinda Hempe of Tyler; son, Randy Redd and wife Melanie of Memphis, TN, son, Ronny Redd and wife Barbie of Roanoak. He is also survived by Elsie's children, Jill Cobb and husband David of Tyler and Molly Parrish and husband Robert of Colleyville; grandchildren, Carla McComb and husband Paul of Ft. Worth, Emily and Riley Redd of Memphis, Jimmy Blythe and wife Emily of Plano, Carlin Blythe of Oklahoma City and John David Cobb of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Tate and Kelly Emory.

Pallbearers will be Riley Redd, Jimmy Blythe, John David Cobb, David Cobb and Robert Parrish.
