Stanley Dwight Handley was born June 22, 1919, in La Porte, Ind., and died June 2, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Susan Handley, and his two sons.
He married Mary Susan Stull of Bloomington, Ind., May 25, 1941. Born to them were Judith Susan Handley Hilbish (1942-1993) of La Porte, Ind., Richard Dwight Handley MD of Tyler, and the Rev. Dr. David Stull Handley with the Presbyterian Church (USA). He has seven grandchildren, Susan Hilbish Minniear, David Hilbish, Rachel Handley, Megan Handley, Derek Handley, Scott Handley and Taylor Handley. He has seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Handley attended the School of Business at Indiana University, 1938 to 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps as a bomber pilot during World War II. He served from 1947 to his retirement as a salesman for Brown and Bigelow Remembrance Advertising Co., winning high honors in sales for 40 years.
He served as president of his La Porte Rotary Club from 1961 to 1962. He founded the Rotary High School Career Day. Dwight served on the Salvation Army Board of Directors. He was active in his churches, La Porte Presbyterian Church and Liberty Bible Church, Chesterton, Ind. He taught Sunday school, served as an elder, and organized home Bible studies for Campus Crusade for Christ. He led Bible studies in the Indiana State Prison for 25 years for Prison Fellowship in Michigan City, Ind.
