Interment will be in Bascom Cemetery, Smith County, Texas. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 29 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.

Sherry passed peacefully, from this world to the next, surrounded by family at Hospice of East Texas Homeplace.

Sherry was born in Tyler to Dr. Leroy Collum and Gwen Elliott Collum on March 21, 1960 and came home to Quitman. After moving from Quitman the Collum family set up residence in Nacogdoches for a few years before they settled in Tyler where Sherry made her lifelong home.

She received her BA in Psychology from the University of Texas at Tyler. Following graduation, she worked as an Activity Director at a local nursing home. That experience opened the door to her true calling in the elder care industry. She went on to work as a Social Worker, Marketer, acquired state certification to train Activity Directors and ultimately became a Nursing Home Administrator. She was passionate about her studies in Psychology and used that training to improve the lives of those with mental health needs residing in nursing homes.

She loved her residents and employees and positively impacted the lives of many throughout her career. Despite working in numerous care homes, her "work Home" would always be Kerens Care center where she spent 11 years.

At age 18 Sherry married Jimmy Vest. Too young and not ready for marriage these two went their separate ways for over 20 years. But 10 years ago, their paths crossed and they were again united in marriage. Jimmy has been by her side caring for her during her battle with cancer.

Sherry was a strong Christian and ordained minister. She loved to use her gift of song to minister to others.

Sherry was a proud mom, grandmother, sister and aunt. She is survived by a very large and loving family. Those left to cherish her memory include: Daughters, Candice Cain Emerson and her husband Ben and Christen Browne of Tyler. Grandchildren: Lexie Browne, Easton Browne and Connor Hockheim of Tyler and Kayleigh Cain, Emily Cain, Cameron Cain and Heaven Cain of Frankston and Desirae Emerson of Whitehouse.

Sherry leaves behind not only her children and grandchildren, but a large and loving family. She is survived by her father and stepmom, Dr. Leroy Collum and Diane Collum of Van. Sisters: Karen Collum, Deanne Riley and Husband David, Kristi C. Roberts and husband Bruce, Lauren Whitus and husband Josh, Lacey Collum, Leah Bryan and husband Thomas. Brothers: Cary Collum and wife Linda, Carter Collum and wife Heather, Charlton Collum and wife Priscilla, Clayton Collum and wife Chelsea and Ron Koziol. Sister inlaws, June Griffen and husband James and Alelia Folker and husband Joe. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gwen Elliott Collum.

Serving as pallbearers are: Matthew Roberts, Jack Roberts, Joe Folker, Dallas Wiggins, Cameron Cain and Kyle Violet. Honorary pallbearers are her brothers Cary, Carter, Charlton, Clayton and Ron.

There is sadness in her passing. Joy in her relief of pain. Comfort in knowing she walks in heaven.
