A celebration of life service honoring Robert Gene Randall, 85, of Tyler will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church in Tyler with Dr. Chris Pulliam officiating.

A private burial will be held prior to the service at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler, under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Randall passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 at The Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.

He was born September 8, 1930 in Quapaw, Oklahoma to Charles and Catherine Alexander Randall.

Bob was a graduate of Quapaw High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma. After college he joined the military, becoming an Officer in the US Army. Bob began his professional career with the J. C. Penney Company in 1955 as a management trainee. He began working in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1955 and transferred to Florida in 1962, where he served as a division manager, assistant manager, group sales manager, merchandising manager and store manager in numerous stores until 1968. Before coming to Tyler he was based in Dallas as a district manager over stores in West Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma for 37 years. He chose to move to Tyler in 1971, excited for the opportunity to plan, build, open and become the Manager of the first J. C. Penney store in a mall between Dallas and Shreveport in Tyler's Broadway Square Mall, where he worked until his retirement in 1988.

During his 45 years in Tyler, Bob was continually involved in his community. He served on the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees as President from 1976 to 1982, the Board of Directors for United Way, Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, Tyler YMCA, Opportunities in Tyler, Advisory Board of Tyler Commercial College and was active in the Smith County Heart Association. Bob was instrumental in bringing the Better Business Bureau to Tyler and served as its first Chairman.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Randall was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Mary Ward Randall.

He is survived by his loving family including wife, Mary Helen of Tyler; sons, Bob Randall, Jr. and wife Gail of Flint and Mark Randall and wife Ashley of Tyler; daughters, Suzanne Elder and husband Hayden of Athens and Stephanie Rumbelow and husband Bruno of Grapevine; eleven grandchildren, Ashton and Forrest Elder, Drew, John Robert and Libby Rumbelow, Riley, Jonathan, David, William, Elizabeth and Caroline Randall; step-sons, Scott Davis and wife Anita and Steven Davis; step-grandson, Cody Davis and step-great-grandson, Piper Davis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Newton, Bill Martin and Bob Gentry.

Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the following Doctors and caregivers for their special care, The Hospice of East Texas, Dr. Edwin Duncan, Dr. Thomas Bright, LaTonya Henderson, Tacola Austin, Brenda Villeas, Rachel Sanders, Jessica Villegas and Damaysha Foster.
