Memorial services for Mildred C. Cross, age 84, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at the Myra Wilson Chapel with the Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. A private graveside service will be in Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with grandsons, Jordan Cross, Taylor Cross, Cody Castagno, Case Castagno and Brian Phillips serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Leon Nix, Joe France, Bill Bagby and Verdon Graves.
Mrs. Cross was born on March 21, 1929, in Dallas, the daughter of Chuck and Carrie Elizabeth (Haynsworth) McDonald. She married James Cross on Dec. 8, 1949, in Sulphur Springs. He survives. Mrs. Cross was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Sulphur Springs. She was a member of the Lena Day Garden Club and Mothers Culture Club. She won Yard of the Year and received the Shannon Carpenter Rural Beautification Award in 1991 from the Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Cross was a homemaker and an avid Texas Rangers fan.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Johnny Cross and wife Diana, of Sulphur Springs, Red Cross and wife Carmen, of Sulphur Springs, Cathy Castagno and husband Kent, of Tyler; grandchildren, Jordan Cross, Taylor Cross, Colbie Cross, Christie Phillips, Cody Castagno, Carlie Castagno and Case Castagno; and five great-grandchildren.
