A celebration of life service for Melvin Owens of Tyler, will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018 1:00 PM at Peoples Baptist Church with Rev. Marcus Jackson officiating eulogist. Interment will held in Larissa Cemetery, Bullard under the direction of Brooks Sterling & Garrett Funeral Directors.

Melvin Owen was born on February 14, 1941 in Bullard, Texas to Guy Owens and Johnnie Albright Owens. He gained his wings on June 4, 2018.

Melvin was a 1959 graduate of Stanton High School and received his Associates Degree from Tyler Junior College. He was drafted into the military and served during the Korean War. After returning from the military, he began his employment at LaGloria Gas and Oil. He retired from LaGloria after 30 years of service.

He was a faithful and dutiful member of People's Baptist Church. He was part of the Transportation Ministry. He was also a member of the East Texas Veterans Association and The Old School Cruizers Car Club.

Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his parents Guy and Johnnie Owens. He is survived by sons Melvin and Derrick and Kenneth. Brothers Leonard, Venard and James; sister Letha Owens Wallace. Thirteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, five nieces, three great nieces and special friend Brenda Whitaker.

Public viewing at the funeral home Friday, 1:00-8:00 PM.
