Funeral services for John Ronald Johnson, 51, of Tyler are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Hood officiating.
Burial will be in Lawrence Cemetery under direction of Brooks-Sterling & Garrett Funeral Directors, Tyler.
"Ronnie" Johnson, 51, was born John Ronald Johnson on June 14, 1961, in Tyler to James Douglas Johnson and Erma Mosley Johnson. He passed away peacefully at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at 5:45 a.m.
Ronnie grew up in Arizona where he graduated from Window Rock High School in Fort Defiance, Ariz. He then attended Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., where he received an associate degree in business administration. He was self-employed in the telemarketing industry, locating him across the United States. Ronnie's skillfulness in the telemarketing industry also led him to train employees for other telemarketing business owners.
Ronnie found pleasure and interest in reading and discussing the Bible, with a thorough knowledge of the historical aspect. He was very versed in the scriptures and had a natural knack for memorizing them.
Ronnie had a passion for sports and a love for basketball, which led him to believe that he could become a "pro" someday. His competitive spirit led him to believe that he could beat anybody at any sport, at any time, including playing chess. Ronnie had a carefree, happy-go-lucky attitude that always attracted his friends and loved ones close to him.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, James Douglas Johnson, and his brother, Willie Gene Johnson.
Ronnie leaves to cherish his memory: his loving mother, Erma Jean Mosley Johnson of Tyler; his devoted sister, Brenda Johnson Smith of Ewing, N.J.; aunts and uncles: Gladys Bradley of Mesa, Ariz., Opeleo Johnson of Pilot Point, Bernard Johnson of Beeville, H.L. Johnson of Pilot Point, Loretta M. Dewberry of Tyler, Fay Gooden of Kansas City, Kan., Cedric Mosley of Winnsboro, Jersey Jr. and Melva Adams of La Mirada, Calif., Dr. Riley Jr. and Shirley Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif., Ernest E. and Emma Loraine Sylva of Humble; nephews and nieces: Chereif D. Smith of Mount Laurel, N.J., Rai Shonda Smith of Farmingdale, N.J., Angela Johnson, Anthony Paul Johnson, both of Tyler, Marvin Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif.; devoted friends: Carol Woodard, Kizzy Harper, both of Tyler; numerous cousins and other family and friends.
Visitation will be noon to 7 p.m. Monday at Brooks-Sterling & Garrett Funeral Directors, Tyler.
