Jerry Gene Bass passed away in Tyler on Feb. 5, 2013. He and his twin sister, Judy, were born in Tyler to Cecil and Beatrice Bass on Aug. 13, 1940.
Jerry began working at an early age at Shahan Grocery in Whitehouse. Mrs. Shahan was very influential in teaching him strong work ethics and encouraged him to have a personal relationship with God. Jerry graduated from Whitehouse High School, spent time in Dallas, and then returned to Whitehouse for the remainder of his life.
After 33 years of work at Kelly-Springfield, Jerry retired in 2002. Jerry loved to spend time with the friends he accumulated along the path of his life.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Beatrice Bass; twin sister, Judy Bass Collins and husband Charles; brothers, Sam Bass, David Bass and wife Joan; and niece, Laura Bass Endsley.
Jerry is survived by his closest friends, Bill Portwood, Karla Cain and Kara Hutton, all of Whitehouse; brother, Glenn Bass and wife Trecia of Tyler; sister-in-law, Joan Bass of Simi Valley, Calif.; nieces, Teresa Lovelis, Debbie Rose and husband Mike, all of Texarkana, Ark., Carla Bass Donoso and husband Rafael of Humble and Cindy Bellingar of Ferndale, Wash. He is also survived by his nephews, Ricky Bass and wife Mary of Littleton, Colo., and Jimmy Bass of Olympia, Wash.
A memorial service is scheduled for noon on Feb. 16, 2013, at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church near Whitehouse under direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
