Services for Grady Lynn Phillips, 94, of Tyler, will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel in Tyler with Rev. Gerry Giles officiating. Burial will follow at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Phillips passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at The Hospice of East Texas. He was born May 17, 1924, in Rogers, TX to Rufus Marvin Phillips and Daisy Bell Henderson Phillips.

Grady was a beloved husband for 68 years, an amazing father and an incredible friend to everyone he met. His kindness, loyalty and unwavering friendships never went unnoticed by others. He had an infectious laugh and a story telling ability that would light up any room. Everyone enjoyed being around Grady and he enjoyed being around them as well. He was a fighter until the very end. We love you Grady, you are our ray of sunshine.

Grady proudly served four years with distinction aboard the USS Allendale in the South Pacific during World War II as a Pharmacist Mate Third Class.

Grady was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church, Certified Lay Speaker of the Methodist Church, a Paul Harris Fellow, Mayor of City of Star Harbor, Member Board of Directors Malakoff Area Chamber of Commerce, Member and President of Malakoff Rotary Club, Member and President of Malakoff Lions Club. He graduated from Rogers High School, attended University of Texas, University of Houston and Graduated Baylor University in 1952. Grady held the position of Accountant with Lone Star Industries for over 30 years.

Grady was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dean McGuire. He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Ama Lee Phillips; daughter, Cheryl Hester (husband Tommy Hester); grandson, Jason Austin Hester; great-granddaughter, Kaia Hester; daughter, Elizabeth Thiemann (husband Eric Thiemann), grandson, Tommy Thiemann; nephew, Billy Ray McGuire (wife Candy McGuire); great-nephews, Ron McGuire and Pat McGuire; nephew, Gary McGuire, grandnieces, Shelley Pausewang and Carla Morris; nephew, Phil McGuire.

Pallbearers will be Jason Austin Hester, Billy Ray McGuire, Phil McGuire, Eric Thiemann, Don Hughes, Rod Kosterman and Craig Dickey. Honorary pallbearer is Jim Reed.
