Frances Maxine Gilliam Barber

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend, Frances Maxine Gilliam Barber went to be with her Lord on Sept. 6, 2013. She was born in Edgewood on March 17, 1921, to the late William Henry and Lyndia Bowen Gilliam. Maxine met and married her high school sweetheart, Donald Mack Barber Sr., on June 4, 1938. They shared 71 happy years together and now they are reunited in eternity.
Maxine loved children, as it was evident when she served food at John Tyler High. Her passion was making dolls, painting china and cooking delicious desserts. Everyone loved her beautiful flowers and her professional sewing and smocking. Many enjoyed seeing her talents on display at The East Texas State Fair, for which she won many awards. Maxine was a member of Pollard United Methodist Church and the Epworth Sunday School Class.
Maxine's memory will live on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her survivors include her oldest son, Donald Mack Barber Jr. and wife Martha, of Atoka Okla.; daughter, Linda Barber Freeland and husband Bruce, of Tyler; and son, Gary Bowen Barber and wife Amy, of Tyler. Maxine was the proud "Mamaw" of seven grandchildren, Stephanie Bright, Deborah Neeley, Ryan Freeland, Crystal Starr, Kari Bonner, Ross Barber and Bret Barber; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Mack Barber, and brothers and sisters.
Maxine's mother instilled in her at a young age the righteousness of a Proverbs 31 woman, which was evident in the way our mother lived her life. She will be missed beyond words. The family would like to send a huge thanks to all the doctors and nurses who cared for our beloved mother and Mamaw at Pinehurst Nursing Home and Heart to Heart Hospice.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Steve Bright, Rick Neeley, Ryan Freeland, Eric Starr, Aaron Bonner, Ross Barber and Bret Barber.
