Ethel Leatherman, 92, of Tyler passed away peacefully on Saturday July, 28th. She was born in North Carolina to Chester and Bertha Campbell. She married Kirkland Corbett on January 10, 1946 in Washington D.C. where they both worked at the Pentagon. After moving to Texas her husband, Kirkland, passed away in 1961. Ethel continued her education receiving her Masters in Education and teaching in the Tyler area for 17 years. In 1967 Ethel married Frank Leatherman and they settled in Tyler. After Ethel retired from teaching she loved giving her time at UTMC for over 10 years. She is a sister of Alpha Delta Kapa and a member of the Northern Star. As a master of the home garden Ethel learned everything in the out doors. These outdoor lessons are passed along through her family, where every grandchild knows anything can be cured with castor oil and garlic. She is a life long member of the Methodist Church where she will always be remembered for bring cake on Sundays. Ethel will be greatly missed by all that know her. She has left a wonderful mark on her family, friends, as well as her community. The family will gather at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday July, 31 to celebrate her life at 2:00pm with a time of visitation beginning at 12:00pm. Please join the family to share memories as well as recipes and lessons learned from Ethel over her 92 beautiful years.
