Funeral services for Charles E. Boyd, Jr., age 81, of Hideaway, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 7, 2017 in the New Harmony Baptist Church with Bro. Robbie Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Lindale City Cemetery with services under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale, Texas. Charles died Thursday, August 3, 2017 at his residence in Hideaway. He was born on January 2, 1936 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Charles Eugene, Sr. and Clementine (Bowman) Boyd and was formerly of Dallas before moving to Hideaway in 1996. Charles graduated college from Baylor University and retired after 31 years with Vought Aircraft, Co. working as an avionics engineer. In addition, he had been employed with Northrop Space Laboratories for 3 years and Firestone Guided Missile Division in Los Angeles, CA for 2 years. Charles was a former member of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas and currently was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church. He was past-president of the Hideaway Kiwanis Club, served on the Hideaway Community Church Board of Directors, member of East Texas Chapter of Vought Retiree Club and the Hideaway Square Dance Club and was a volunteer for East Texas Medical Center Hospital. He was preceded in death by a nephew, David Curry; grandson, Stephen Wells; and great grandson, Casen Wells. Charles is survived by his wife, Melba Joy Boyd of Hideaway, Texas; son & daughter-in-law, Trent & Rebecca Johnson of Mansfield, Texas; daughters & sons-in-law, Melinda & Billy Wells of Winona, Texas and Annette & Greg Smith of Shenandoah, Texas; sister, Betty Reid of Ft. Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Meghan Calloway, Paige Heath and husband, Clay, Chris Wells, Billy Wells and Southern Pope; niece, Kathy Barnett of Ft. Worth, Texas; nephew, Jon Curry of Dallas, Texas; and 8 great grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Turvan, Bob Shearer, David Montgomery, Jerry Wright, Jim Moser and Wes Shamp. Honorary pallbearer is Bob Harding. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, New Harmony Baptist Church or the Hospice of East Texas Homeplace.
