Memorial services for Barbara Wray Johnson, 85, of Tyler, are scheduled for Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Marvin United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerry Giles officiating. A private burial will be held under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnson died on Sunday, September 9, 2018 after a lengthy illness.

Barbara was born on October 31, 1932 in Memphis, Tennessee to Robert and Ethel Wray. She moved to Crockett, Texas in 1945, where she graduated from Crockett High School and then attended Southern Methodist University. She was married to Jasper Irwin Jones in 1950 until his death in 1978. They moved to Tyler in 1952. Barbara was married to her second husband, Worth Frank Johnson, in 1980 until his death in 2009.

Mrs. Johnson was a faithful civic leader to the City of Tyler. She served in numerous capacities in the Tyler Rose Festival Association, including Coronation and Royalty Chair. She served as President of the Tyler Junior League, the Tyler Symphony League and the Tyler Junior Garden Club. She also served on the Tyler City Planning Commission. A member of Marvin United Methodist Church for 65 years, Barbara was a Sunday school teacher for children as well as the adult Crusader Class.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and her sister, Kathryn Wray Bright. She is survived by her children, Jill Jones Swaya (Matthew) of Seattle, WA; Anne Jones Cutchins (Cecil) of Virginia Beach, VA; Allison Jones Hamman (Jeffrey) of Ellicott City, MD; Christopher Irwin Jones (Nancy) of Tyler; stepdaughter, Ann Johnson Lilly (Roy) of Tyler; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces, Sheri Satterwhite of Tyler, Kimberly Bright Henderson of Anaheim Hills, CA and Tiffany Bright Knight of Fredericksburg, TX.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Cecil Vaughan Cutchins Jr., Dr. Clifford Armstrong Cutchins V, William Robert Hamman, Christopher Irwin Jones Jr., as well as Bryan Torrey Forman, Richard Greer McKellar, Russell Hightower and Scott Knight. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicolas Michael Swaya, Dr. Clayton Whitney and John Leslie Watson.

The family would like to extend their gratitude, love and thanks to Janelle Richardson, Gail Ford, Tan Baxter, Maxine Marshall and Deborah Gipson for their loving attention to their mother.
