Services for W.P. "Bill" Henderson, 85, of Tyler will be held on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Tyler with the Rev. Pike Wisner officiating.
A private burial will be in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Henderson passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013.
He was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Yoakum to Richard Pleasant and Maude Wallace Henderson.
Bill was a 56-year member of First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He graduated from Baylor University and earned his master's degree from East Texas State University in Commerce. Bill served his country as a proud Marine during the Korean War.
He was a coach and principal at Daingerfield, Clarksville and Tyler High School. He also had a career with Star Engraving Co., spanning 20 years.
Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Rita, parents and one brother, Richard.
He is survived by his loving family including sons, Plez Henderson and wife Lori, of Tyler, Bruce Henderson and wife Jan, of Dallas, David Henderson and his wife Melissa, of Tyler; daughter, Kay Bowman and husband Jolyon, of Tyler; 11 grandchildren; nephew, Richard Henderson and wife LouAnn, of Willis.
The family would like to thank the staff and friends at Meadow Lake for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 301 W. Ferguson St., Tyler, 75702.
