Sheila Jean Grooms, beloved wife of Dickie Grooms, went to be with her Lord on March 25, 2014. She was born to Gene and Frances Barber on June 5, 1948. Sheila was a wonderful Christian wife and mother. She was a school teacher for 30 years, having taught second grade in Jacksonville. Sheila was a graduate of John Tyler High School, Tyler Junior College, Texas A&M University-Commerce and received her master's degree from The University of Texas at Tyler.
She is survived by her husband of more than 42 years, Dickie Grooms; a son, Anthony Grooms; mother, Frances Dykes; mother-in-law, Katherine Grooms; two sisters, Sharon Walker and husband Steve, and Theresa Albritton and husband Chris; sister-in-law, Kay Collins and husband Daniel; five nieces; one nephew;and several great-nieces.
Shelia was preceded in death by her father, Gene Barber; and father-in-law, Hollie Grooms.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Dr. John H. Beard officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 Friday, March 28, 2014, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Farnsworth, Steve Walker, Buddy Goad, Mike McClure, Donnie Thedford and Brian Thedford.
