Memorial services for Mr. Semuel Fate Birdsong, 88, of Tyler, formerly of Kilgore, will be Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore with Heart To Heart Hospice Chaplain Kenn Somerville officiating. Burial will be in Danville Cemetery at a later date. Mr. Birdsong passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, in Tyler.
Semuel was born in Kilgore on April 22, 1926, the son of the late Grady and Luvinia Birdsong. Mr. Birdsong was a lifelong resident of the Kilgore area. He was a member of the Forest Home Baptist Church and retired from McAlister Printing Co. in Kilgore. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Semuel was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening. Mr. Birdsong's family and friends remember him as a very selfless man who was always willing to help others.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James Ray and Pok Birdsong, of Houston; brother, Freddie and wife Gladys Birdsong, of New Mexico; granddaughter, Amanda Soape and her husband Michael, of Tyler; great-granddaughters, Kennedi Soape and Everly Soape, of Tyler; grandsons, Ji and wife Ciara Yun, of Houston, and Chang Yun, Ph.D of Houston; several nieces and nephews and their children. Mr. Birdsong was preceded in death by his son, Robert Dale Birdsong; and five siblings.
