Roy Weldon Different, 80, Chandler, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, in Tyler. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Land of Memories Cemetery in Palestine with the Revs. Valerie Hudson and Richard Prather officiating. Services are under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.
Roy was born July 11, 1933, in Grapeland to the late Homer and Alma Different. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and earned a B.S. degree from Texas A&M University. He was a retired civil engineer for the U.S. Corps of Engineers at the Galveston Hydraulics Division. Roy was a member of Lake Palestine United Methodist Church, Galveston A&M Club, Texas A&M Alumni Club and the Methodist Men.
Mr. Different was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jane Ann Rogers Different; and grandson, Trey Skinner. He is survived by his wife, Martha Different, Chandler; sons, Ronald Joe Different, Texas City, and Michael Pool and wife Amy, Leander; daughters, Cynthia Skinner, Texas City, Tracy Dinna Proctor, Texas City, Melissa Currid and husband Ray, Katy and Pamala Compean and husband Jeff, Round Rock; brother, Walter Gene Different and wife Patricia, Chandler; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Lake Palestine United Methodist Church.
