Richard M. Smith, 68, of Tyler, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014.
He was born to the late Richard Leon Smith and LaMoine Smith on Oct. 3, 1945, in Tulsa, Okla. He married Susan L. Smith in 1967. They lived in Tulsa, Okla., and Dallas before locating to Tyler in 1981.
Richard served as a police officer in Dallas and a police officer and detective in Tyler. He also served in the Army National Guard and U.S. Navy Reserve for 25 years.
Richard is survived by his wife, Susan L. Smith; a son, Richard M. Smith Jr. and wife Andrea Smith; and five grandchildren, all of Tyler. He also is survived by a sister, Paula Gard; and brother-in-law, Gene Gard, of Fairview, Okla.; and by numerous dearly loved nieces and nephews, all of Oklahoma, Texas and Nevada.
A memorial service will be on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.
