Funeral services for Marvin G. Hughes, 80, Whitehouse, will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Whitehouse United Methodist Church with the Revs. Matt Thomas and Chuck Bratz officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery, Rusk, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mr. Hughes died Monday, April 28, 2014, in Tyler. He was born Aug. 28, 1933, in Center to the late Marvin Doyle Hughes and Beulah Weathersby Hughes.
Mr. Hughes was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. in Tyler. He was a member of Whitehouse United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Doss Hughes; sister, Melba Danley; first wife of 38 years, Bonnie Faye McClain Hughes; and second wife of 16 years, Martha McMillan Hughes.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda Stone, of Tyler, Nancy and Michael Jeter, of Whitehouse, Jan and Joe Don Abernathy, of Whitehouse; brother, Gerald Hughes, of Timpson; sisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnn and Gordon Martin, of Joaquin, and Patsy and David Garrie, of Highland; seven grandchildren, Donna Howard and husband DeAndre, Allen Stone, Kelli MacDonald and husband Rod, John Jeter, Shelby Jeter, Jayanna Williams and husband Craig, and Jentry Caussey; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer a special appreciation and much love to caregivers, Sonja Burks, Frances Johnson and Josephine Lee, and the loving staff at The Hospice of East Texas HomePlace.
Pallbearers will be Billy Hughes, Bruce Hughes, Ricky Martin, Tommy Danley, David Bruce and Rod MacDonald.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30.
