Services for Marva Jo Barker, 68, Athens, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Athens.
Burial will be in North Athens Cemetery under direction of Garrett & Tucker Funeral Home, Athens.
Mrs. Barker died Dec. 31, 2013, in a Tyler hospital.
She was born March 8, 1945, in Athens, where she was a lifelong resident.
She attended Fisher High School and the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. She became a licensed funeral director in 1978. She was the active funeral director for Garrett & Tucker Funeral Directors and Tucker Funeral Home. She also was the owner of E&M Grave Service. Mrs. Barker also was a presiding precinct judge and a member of Allen Chapel AME Church.
She was preceded in death by husband, George Barker; parents, Preston Sowers and Elizabeth Sowers; two sisters; and a niece.
Survivors include daughter, Marvetta J. Barker; stepsons, George Barker, Michael Barker; stepdaughters, Betty Richmond, Nicole Thornton; and special grandson, Jaden Trigg.
Public visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m. Friday at Allen Chapel AME Church and one hour prior to service Saturday at First Baptist Church.
