Margaret E. Whitson


Funeral services for Margaret E. Whitson, age 92, of Lake Charles, La., and former longtime resident of Tyler, are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler with the Rev. Rick Tate officiating. Burial will follow in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler.
Ms. Whitson died after a long and beautiful life on Aug. 12, 2014, in Lake Charles, La. She was born on April 14, 1922, in Greenville. She was raised in Greenville and in Dallas and attended both Southern Methodist University and Texas A&I in Kingsville. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from SMU in 1943.
She was happily married to the love of her life, Frank Whitson, for almost 64 years, who preceded her in death. They resided in Lake Jackson for 37 years before retiring to Tyler. In Tyler, she was an active member of Fairwood United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Daughters of the Republic of Texas and American Association of University Women.
Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Rollins and husband Steve, of San Antonio; her son, Charles Whitson and wife Sheila, of Lake Charles, La.; several nieces and nephews; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
