Mr. Joseph "Joe" Earl Hill, age 89, of Winnsboro passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Autumn Winds Assisted Living of Winnsboro.
Joe was born in Mansfield on May 12, 1924, to the late Charlie Burl and Thelma Lou McCoy Hill. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnsboro, the Winnsboro Bass Club, the Paratroopers Association in Quitman, and was ordained as a Baptist deacon in 1955. He married the former Gertie Maude Leath on July 12, 1947.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gertie Hill, of Winnsboro; son, Kenneth R. Hill, of Grand Prairie; daughters, Sharon Sue Hill Baker and husband Steve, of Mansfield, Cheryl Talley and husband Carlos Miller, of Winnsboro; sister, Coleta Glenn, of Orange, Calif.; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joseph Earl Hill Jr.; two grandchildren, Samuel Joseph Baker, Lashely Ann Talley; and three brothers.
Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, March 16, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Beaty Funeral Home of Winnsboro. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 15, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Lee Cemetery of Winnsboro. Memorials can be made to Hearts Way Hospice.
