Funeral services for Joe Dalton Darby, 89, Winnsboro, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Beaty Funeral Home, Winnsboro, with the Rev. David Taylor officiating.
Burial will be in Lee Cemetery.
Mr. Darby passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.
He was born Jan. 21, 1925, in Wood County to Loraine Darby and Oddie Burks Darby. Mr. Darby served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired carpenter and builder. He was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a deacon in 1980.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and his wife of 68 years, Fern Craddock Darby, on July 6, 2012.
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Patricia and Jay Franklin, of Newark, and Sheila and Ronny Lee, of Winnsboro; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Lucy Taylor, of Jacksonville, and Mattie Lou and Howard Conway, of Forney; five grandchildren, Coy and Julie Highsmith, of San Antonio, Amber and Justin High, of Weatherford, Tiffany and Keith Witthaus, of Azle, Jeremy Lee and Joshua Lee, of Winnsboro; five great-grandchildren, Chance Garcia, Cayden Garcia, Kimberly Witthaus, Carter High and Reagan High.
Pallbearers will be Bill Coe, Ronnie Gilbreath, Harold Gilbreath, Larry Mitchell, Rickey Swanner and Norman Green.
Honorary pallbearers will be fellow deacons of Walnut Street Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
