Jack W. Franklin Sr., 71, of Aik-en, S.C., a native of Texas, passed on to Glory on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014.
Jack was born in Henderson on Sept. 16, 1942, the son of J.T. and Virginia Bell (Reed) Franklin.
A graduate of The University of Texas, Jack was a man who loved God and loved and devoted himself to his wife, children and grandchildren. Jack was a man of high integrity and character, with a strong work ethic.
Jack and his wife, Barbara, had lived the last 13 years in Aiken, S.C. Jack returned to Texas to complete his rodeo - he went for one last taste of Texas barbecue, one last Whataburger, one last look at the Longhorn cattle and the birth of a new calf, one last visit with family and friends and one last sunset before going to His heavenly home to occupy the mansion that Jesus had prepared for him.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Johnston Franklin; two sons, Jack W. "Will" Franklin Jr. and wife Elizabeth "Liz" Casillas, of Houston, and Dr. Robert P. "Rob" Franklin and wife Laurie Jenschke, of Weatherford; four grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye, Aidan Franklin (12), Joshua Franklin (10), Bree Franklin (7) and Colbie Franklin (4); two brothers, Albert Reed Franklin and wife Patricia; Joel I. Franklin and wife Lucy; one sister, Francine Franklin Mellon; along with many nieces and nephews.
A special thank-you goes to Mr. Franklin's caregivers from Hospice Brazos Valley: Deb, Kaylin, Dianne, Tanesha, Kelly, Dawn, Sandra, Phyllis, Joanne, both Brendas, Lena, Carol, Cindy, Melissa, Halei, Kimberly and Dr. Borgstedte.
