Frederick Joseph Woelkers Jr.


Frederick Joseph Woelkers Jr., 89, of Morehead City, N.C., died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at Carteret General Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at St. Egbert Catholic Church with Monsignor Francis Moeslein and the Rev. Thomas R. Davis officiating.
Mr. Woelkers was born Sept. 11, 1924, in Detroit, Mich., to Frederick Joseph Woelkers and Mae Katherine Wiegand Woelkers. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Ann Smith Woelkers, of Morehead City, N.C.; 15 children, Frederick J. Woelkers III, of Seward, Alaska, Elsie M. Spencer, of Morehead City, N.C., Roland C. Woelkers, of Marine City, Mich., Michael F. Woelkers, of Bellingham, Wash., Stephen M. Woelkers, of Pittsburgh, Pa., Joseph F. Woelkers, of Tyler, Peter N. Woelkers, of Great Falls, Mont., David A. Woelkers, of Brighton, Mich., Mary S. Shaw, of Virginia Beach, Va., Timothy M. Woelkers, of Ray Twp, Mich., William G. Woelkers, of Chicago, Ill., Elizabeth A. McCreedy, of Detroit, Mich., Ann M. Maier, of Deadwood, S.D., Cmdr. Gerard J. Woelkers, USN, stationed in Landstuhl, Germany, and Christopher S. Woelkers, of Greenville N.C.; brother, Robert Woelkers, of Southgate, Mich.; sister, Helene Williams, of Port Charlotte, Fla.: spouses of children; 35 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, a brother, John Woelkers, preceded him in death.
A reception of the body and visitation will be held Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Christian wake service beginning at 6:30 p.m. at St. Egbert Catholic Church.
