Graveside services for Dudley Ray "Ern" Chappell, 81, Tyler, will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, in Bradford Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Weems officiating under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.
Mr. Chappell died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in Tyler.
He was born Aug. 20, 1932, in Fairfield to the late Joel William Chappell and Bobbie V. Petree Chappell.
Mr. Chappell was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was retired from La Gloria Oil & Gas Co. in Tyler and was a member of Southern Oaks Baptist Church, Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jannett Chappell; and brother, Joel W. Chappell Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirlyn Whitesides Chappell, of Tyler; son, Danny R. Chappell and wife Teresa, of Palestine; daughters, Linda Ray and husband Tony, of Tyler, Polly D. Chennault and husband Rob, of Tyler; grandchildren, Michael Ray, Kelly Chappell, Madison Chennault, Zachary Ray, Olivia Chennault and Griffin Chennault.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 1.
