Dr. Gary L. Huber, 74, passed away at home in Tyler on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013. He was born in Spokane, Wash., to Arthur and Frances Huber on Jan. 30, 1939.
Among his professional achievements, Gary was a professor of medicine at Harvard University for 15 years, University of Kentucky for five years, and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler for 10. He was the founder and director of the Texas Nutritional Institute at the East Texas Medical Center and Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. He was board certified in internal medicine and bariatrics. He also served as a Scoutmaster for a local Boy Scout troop in the East Texas Area Council and was a longtime member of the Tyler Catholic Committee on Scouting.
Gary is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Melissa, John, Kathryn and Michael; and his brother, Douglas Huber.
The family will greet visitors at Boren-Conner Funeral Home, U.S. Highway 69, Bullard, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, including a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral will be on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 423 S. Broadway Ave., Tyler.
