Services for Dr. David Lee Sadler will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Longview. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rader Funeral Home, Longview.
Dr. Sadler passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014.
David Lee Sadler, born the son of a farmer on June 27, 1948, took a remarkable work ethic and degree of focus to Texas A&M University in 1966, after finishing as salutatorian at Alba Golden High School.
Dr. Sadler died June 2, 2014.
At Texas A&M, he was a walk-on to the freshman basketball team, a freshman member of the Corps of Cadets, with a pre-medicine focus academically. He would eventually concentrate all of his focus, preparing for medical school.
In 1970, he enrolled at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. After graduating, he began his general surgery residency in San Angelo in 1978. With a calling to specialize in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, he moved back to Dallas in 1984 to begin his training.
He took this specialized practice of medicine to Longview in 1987 to begin the city's first heart program with Jay Chastain at Good Shepard Medical Center.
This team of David, Jay, Frank, Barbara, Sharon and all Good Shepherd staff cared for many East Texans for the next 27 years of David's life.
While never ceasing to practice medicine, he would in his later years reconnect with his farm roots by restoring the grounds of his 25-acre homestead on the corner of HG Mosley and McCann Road. The passion he had for cultivating this property will always be an enduring reminder of his vision, focus and commitment to his life's work and all he served.
David Lee Sadler is survived by his brother, Philip Michael Sadler and family; his two children, Jones Elliott Sadler and Anna-Kathryn Marguerite Prince; one granddaughter, Palmer Madison Prince; and host of dear friends.
He was greatly loved by his friends and family and will always be remembered for his impact in the East Texas community.
