Barbara Jean Reed Brunt, age 76, of Tyler, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014. She was born to the late Charles A. Reed and Zella C. Reed in Houston on Dec. 13, 1937. Barbara received her high school diploma from Mexia High School, going onto East Texas Baptist University where she received her degree in business. She ended her academic journey at SFA, receiving her master's degree. Barbara met her husband and friend, J Frank Brunt, at ETBU and they were married on Aug. 28, 1958. Barbara believed in giving and being of service to others and she did so in her career as a schoolteacher in Houston and Henderson. She and her husband owned and operated a dairy just outside of Henderson and raised registered Brown Swiss cattle for several years. Later Barbara had the opportunity to work alongside her husband in the oil and gas industry as a Certified Professional Landman.
Barbara loved to travel and was afforded the opportunity to see some of the most beautiful places in the world. She also enjoyed attending the Rusk High School class of '55 bi-monthly gatherings with her husband, in which she was adopted as an honorary member of the alumni group. Barbara was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in January of 2013, bringing about changes that truly tested her strength and will. Throughout her health struggles, she never complained and remained humbled and gracious until the end.
Barbara is survived by her husband, J Frank Brunt; two daughters, Charlotte Elaine (Bob) Day, of Dallas, and Karen Sue (Danny) Matthews, of Denton; three grandsons, Lex (Abby) Brunt Richardson, of Lindale, Grayson and Travis Arnold, of Tyler. She is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Kagen and Kalli Richardson. Barbara leaves behind two sisters, Sherry (Bob) Bogue and Judy (Wayne) Kent; one sister and brother in-law, Beth Brunt Sparkman and Hal L. (Janet) Brunt, of Tyler. Lastly, Barbara leaves behind her beloved cats, Mhiko and Dr. Ivan Igor Ruskie, in which she loved so dearly.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Autry Funeral Home chapel in Jacksonville with the Rev. Steve Slover officiating. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, with family receiving friends on Thursday from 1 p.m. until service time.
Burial will be in the Old Palestine Cemetery, 4936 County Road 2604, Alto, 75925.
