William Archer

William Clarence Archer, 80, died Thursday Feb. 21, 2013, at his home in Tyler.

A graveside ceremony will take place Friday, March 1, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. at the old Arlington Cemetery on Mary Street. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wade Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, 76013.

If desired, memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 118 S. Bois d'Arc Ave., Tyler, 75702; or First Presbyterian Church, 230 W. Rusk St., Tyler, 75701.

He was born in Dallas on Nov. 16, 1932, to Virginia Mauvelyn Walker and Clarence Jack Archer. Bill attended school in Oak Cliff in Dallas and graduated high school from Pittsburg High School in 1950. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, and then attended Southern Methodist University where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology in 1959.

Bill served as a bank director, a deacon in the church and as chairman of the board of Nelson International. He attended both Christ Episcopal and First Presbyterian churches of Tyler regularly.

He is survived by his only sister, Virginia Joyce Jones of Colorado; an only daughter, Julia Ann Archer of Florida; grandchildren, Colin Weaver from Tennessee, Maura Weaver from Ohio, Caroline Weaver from California; aunt, Shirley Bratcher Knight from Fort Worth; nephews, Bill Bratcher and Brett Bratcher, also from Fort Worth; and also his beloved first cousins, Ken and wife Alice Moore and Bobby and wife Mary Moore, all from Arlington.
