Walter Foster Prather

Services for Walter Foster Prather, 80, of Chandler, are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 4, in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Matlock officiating. He will be laid to rest at Chandler Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Prather went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in Tyler. He was born Feb. 14, 1933, in Wood County to the late Isaac Walter and Lula Foster Prather. He has lived in Chandler the past 44 years, having also lived in Tyler and Alba. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire and Rubber Co. and was a volunteer fireman with the Chandler VFD for over 30 years. He was a member of the Forest Grove Baptist Church in Chandler.

He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 52 years, Lucille Roberson Prather, of Chandler; daughters, Theresa and Lisa; a sister, Wilma Madden, of Mesquite; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Blount, Steve Tyndell and past and present members of the Chandler Volunteer Fire Department.

The family will receive friends at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to The Forest Grove Baptist Church, 21762 Forest Grove Drive, Chandler, 75758.
