Thurman Lee Johnson, 83, was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Swan to Elvin Johnson and Eva D. (Farr) Johnson. He went to be with his Lord on April 23, 2013.
Thurman served his country in the Korean War
from 1951 to 1953, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, as well as the Overseas Bar. Upon release from active duty he continued to serve his country as a reservist for five years.
Soon after returning from Korea he married his sweetheart, Stella Marie Bullard, who was waiting for him to return. He then set out to become a loving husband and father. He worked in TV repair, farmed and raised cattle, in order to provide for his family. He later got into real estate and went to college, earning a Real Estate Brokers Diploma from Tyler Junior College.
He served his church for 30 years as deacon, usher, Royal Ranger Counsel member and much more. He gave freely to those in need, never expecting anything in return. He was always willing to help anyone without having to be asked. Thurman never met a stranger. He loved to sing about his Lord anywhere, anytime!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Eva D. Johnson; sister, Doris Sustaire; and daughter, Kaye Barnett.
