Tempie White

Services for Mrs. Tempie White will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Van United Methodist Church with Dr. Mike Deaton officiating and Dean and Jeff White assisting. Visitation will be held at Hilliard Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Fairway Garden of Memories Cemetery, Van.

Mrs. White passed away at the age of 88 on April 28, 2013, in Tyler.

Tempie Rebecca Tunnell White was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Jones, a small community between Van and Grand Saline. She had been a resident of the Van area all of her life. She was a school teacher for more than 30 years, beginning her journey in Grand Saline in first grade and also teaching a year in Edom. She taught the majority of her years at Van Junior High. Her passion was teaching others to read, so that they could have a chance to succeed. She also was a talented dancer and taught dance in the 1950s. She also was a longtime member of Van United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bluford Dean White; parents, Commodore Forrest Tunnell and Maggie Ruth Skiles Tunnell; brother, Brady Tunnell; and two sisters, Christine Spruiell and Bernice Benton.

Survivors include her husband, Wylie Warren, of Van; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Karen White, of Canton; son, Jeff White, of Van; five grandchildren and their spouses, Nolan and Susan White, Jeremy and Elizabeth White, Rachel and Louis Lepine, Alex White and Landry White.
