Mike Parks and Mr. David Cannon, Sunday school teacher, officiating. Burial will follow in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Dr. Borum left this earthly world and stepped into the arms of Jesus on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013.
Stan was born on April 19, 1945, in Altus, Okla., while his father, Val, was serving in the U.S. Navy
during World War II
. As a military family, they moved numerous times during Stan's childhood, which gave him a unique perspective. He followed in his father's footsteps and became both a Navy man and an anesthesiologist. Stan met his beautiful wife-to-be while playing in the Texas Tech band. When they married, he studied at UT Southwestern Medical Center and began a lengthy career, working as an anesthesiologist in San Diego, Calif., San Angelo, Temple, and finally Tyler, at Trinity Mother Frances.
Dr. Borum was a dedicated family man who adored his wife of 46 years, children and grandchildren. He was a talented and committed anesthesiologist who cared for his patients and considered his colleagues his dearest friends. He was a Music Man, with a love for barbershop harmony. For almost 40 years, he sang in numerous men's choruses and quartets, became the director of the Texas Country Gentlemen in Temple, and finally became the director of the East Texas Men in Harmony for the past seven years.
Above all, Stan was a man of faith who loved the Lord and placed Him at the center of his life. He studied the Word diligently and was active in various Baptist churches throughout his lifetime, most recently at Green Acres Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. His spiritual heritage, an eternal legacy, was passed down to his children and his grandchildren. He will be incredibly missed by all who knew him.
Dr. Borum is survived by his loving family including his parents, Val and Lillian Borum; his brothers, Winston and Mark Borum; his wife, Pat Borum; his children, Traci Borum, Karen Ratekin and her husband Brent, and Steven Borum and his wife Catherine; his grandchildren, Colby, Joshua and Julie Ratekin and Michael Jay Borum; mother-in-law Della Sandifer; and several nieces and nephews.
