Sherman P. Forbes

Sherman P. Forbes, born March 6, 1936, left this earth Oct. 19, 2013, to play golf with his friends in heaven.
Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Forbes and Faye Coy Forbes; and one daughter, Elizabeth Gasper.
Born in Pontiac, Mich., Sherman served four years in the U.S. Army and upon his return, worked for General Motors in Lansing, Mich., for 20 years. He traveled to Las Vegas, Nev., and got into the casino business, which took him many places across the United States, with his final destination being Tyler in 2006.
Sherman is survived by one brother, Robert Forbes, of Saginaw Mich.; and three children, Sherman S. Forbes, of Williston, N.D., Stacy Forbes, of Indianapolis, Ind., William Forbes, of Meridian, Miss.; and his wife of 16 years, Paula S. Forbes, of Tyler.
Sherman was an avid golfer and took great pride that he could still shoot his age. His love of the game took him from coast to coast, leaving no golf course un-played. Many friends were made on golf courses over the years. Sherman was made a Kentucky Colonel by friends in Kentucky and an Honorary Ship Pilot by the Canaveral Pilots Association while working in Cape Canaveral, Fla.
Our heartfelt thanks to all those who have been with Sherman during his journey in Tyler, and especially the last two years while battling cancer.
