S. Frank Jones

S. Frank Jones was born in Shreveport, La., on Feb. 12, 1922, and died in Tulsa, Okla., Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013. The son of Chesna and E. Lee Jones and younger brother of Robert Lee, he grew up in a home rich in Christian values. He made lifelong friends studying history and economics at Texas A&M University. Upon graduation, he went into active duty in the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant tank group commander and served in the European Theatre of World War II in the 20th Armored Division where he was awarded the Bronze Star and participated in the liberation of German concentration camps. Upon his return from Europe, he earned a Juris Doctorate from Baylor University School of Law and began the practice of law.

Frank married Helen Jane Pearman, and they enjoyed a relationship that grew stronger as they moved with career changes to various Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Georgia cities. His legal career spanned more than 30 years as house counsel in the petroleum industry. He retired as general counsel for Occidental Petroleum Co. He and Helen served as directors of the Pastors Class at Tulsa First Baptist Church.

Frank is survived by a family who cherishes many wonderful memories: a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Robert Elms; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Pam Jones; three grandchildren and their spouses, Camden and Amanda Jones, Megan and Michael Doss, Kathryn Jane and Dr. Joe David Glenn; and a great-grandson, Nash Humphrey Jones.

The family has established an endowed scholarship fund at the Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing to support the Christian mission trips of nursing students in honor of Frank and Helen Jones. The family suggests that any donation in his memory be to: S. Franklin and Helen Jones Endowed Mission Fund at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing, 3700 Worth St., Dallas, 75246.

A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, at Jackson's Burks Walker Tippit in Tyler.
